Bumbo and Solids

Natashka in her new Bumbo chair

After short consideration, I ended up buying the Bumbo infant chair from the Safety Superstore. I've read numerous advantages and benefits of this award-winning chair, and decided Natasha would probably like it. It took only 2 days after placing the order for the chair to be delivered by FedEx which was great! Anyhow, Natasha is still a little confused when I place her into it, so I think it might take a few days for her to get used to it. But what I already love about it is it's lightweight and small in size, making it easy to take with you when going to visit family or someone else's house in general. The bouncer we have served us for this purpose to-date, but it certainly doesn't fit into a trunk of a car. So hopefully Natasha will love the Bumbo as much as I hear other babies do.

On a different note, yesterday was Natasha's 4-month checkup with her pediatrician and she received her vaccines. *sigh* The moment the doc walked into the room, Natasha dissolved into hysterical sobs which lasted all through the appointment and 10 minutes after. It made my mother and I wonder whether babies this small can sense a stranger approaching or associate upcoming discomfort with the doctor's face. I don't know. But I suppose it's possible. Anyway, she got her shots in both thighs, and the doc recommended continuing with feeding her rice cereal, but also to start with solids in 2 weeks from now. Yay! I really wasn't expecting that, but now I am looking forward to it big time. The doc indicated sweet potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, and green and yellow beans would be ideal starters. Mashed purees, of course. I was really excited to start Natasha on something other than formula or cereal, and I'm intending on making my own purees, or at least substituting my own with store-bought. I have a great baby cookbook with some fantastic recipe ideas that I can use, but I was also browsing Amazon.com for any other baby cookbooks as well. But right now I will continue with rice cereal because a) it's recommended for babies her age, b) she seems to love it, and c) it allows her to practice using the spoon for when she does start solids.
