Journey Into the Crib has Begun.

Raising my head for better view...

Natasha is sleeping... Matthew just started watching an almost 3-hour movie in the living room (at 9pm on a work-night! Go figure...), and I am here.

Lately Matthew and I have been contemplating on an evil plan - to kick Natasha out of our bedroom. Muhahahaha... No, really. She's been sleeping in her pack-n-play next to our bed for the past 6 1/2 months and we believe sooner or later she'll have to move into her crib anyway, so why not start now. Besides, she's been sleeping through the night for close to a month now so the timing seems about right. Now, we don't want to shock her or anything or to turn this into an overnight adventure, no, none of that. But instead it's going to be a gradual process. I will begin to place her in the crib in her nursery for her daytime catnaps and have her sleep there, and then once she's mastered that, we'll attempt to leave her there overnight.

Oh, I can just foresee it... Matthew and I constantly getting up to check on our baby... Is she ok? Is she breathing? Is she not too hot? But regardless, it's a step forward. In fact, I've placed her in the crib today, covered her in her regular blanket, and she lay there for some good 50-60 minutes staring at the ceiling and at her toys. But! She then fell asleep and slept for good 45 minutes! It was a fantastic start. So we'll try again tomorrow. Way to go, Natasha!

Very Cool! Actually my boys started sleeping in their cribs in their room at 5 weeks. But we had a different situation. We had them in bassinets in our room and they where just getting too big for those. We have the Pack n' Plays setup in the living room so that they can nap downstairs.

We wouldn't have room to have the Pack n' Plays in the room so we decided that it would be best to have them in their own room and have lots of room in the Crib.

One thing I've found is that the Monitor is almost too good, just a little wimper sounds so loud, for a while I would run to the nursery only to find 2 completely happy sleeping babies.

Good Luck on this Adventure Natasha!

Hi Chris,
I think it's a good idea to have your boys sleep in the crib right now; later on, when they're older and become more stubborn, you won't have to worry about this transition that we are going through right now.
Yes, we've considered the monitor system before as well, so if we're too paranoid we might consider it, I suppose! Laughing Good luck.

hey julia

since we moved to our new house, we are thinking about putting her in her own room too. we used to stay in a 1 bedroom apt so we didnt hv much choice then. i think it will take longer for her to adjust since for a month she has been sleeping with me in our bed since Frank left for the new job. but i think she will probably adjust in 2 weeks. as for the concern, that is exactly what i was thinking too! i will probably be paranoid and checking her in the other room every 10 minutes or so! Wink

Hey Aida, guess we're in this boat together =) Let me know how it goes with Avarayna and how she adjusts to the change.
